As the 2024 season draws to a close, we've been reflecting on what an amazing community we have here in Crantock. We feel so lucky to have been a part of it since 2016 and we're always amazed by what an incredible village it is and how many things happen here! In this blog we're highlighting a few of the events, people and organisations that make Crantock special!
Crantock Surf Lifesaving Club
From training up the next generation of lifesavers, to voluntary patrols keeping beach goers safe, to just being an amazingly inclusive club at the heart of the community, Crantock simply wouldn't be the same without CSLSC.
Tons of effort from a dedicated crew, who give their time freely, keeps this club open and they're certainly a charity worthy of your support. Keep an eye out for their regular fundraisers, there's always something new going on and we hope the club keeps growing and keeping the community safe for many years to come
Crantock Rowing Club
A relative newcomer to Crantock, a generous donation from a long-term local resident brought the first gig to the village in early 2023. The club has gone from strength to strength, competing in local and national competitions and with over a hundred members who are keen to get out for a row.
Keep your eyes peeled on the evening high-tides and you'll be able to watch their regular training sessions. They're always open for new members, so if you'd like to get involved then check out the club HERE.
Pub life
For such a small village we're so lucky to have 3 amazing pubs; The Old Albion, The Cornishman & The Bowgie Inn all with their own unique vibe, meaning there's something for everyone! Whether you want traditional pub fare, a bounce around to live music or breathtaking views, Crantock's range of boozers have you covered! Everyone has their personal favourite, but having three great venues is something really special.
On top that there are some awesome bars on the various campsites around the village, such as at Treago Farm or the OffBeat Bar up at Quarryfields. One thing is for sure, if you're visiting Crantock you're spoilt for choice if you want to pop out for a drink!
Bale Push
The highlight of the year in terms of Crantock events, the second Friday of September is one for your diary - this is a firm favourite of the Big Green team and we're stoked to have put a team in every single year! Hands-down the hardest 3 minutes of exercise you'll ever do (steady now), it's always an incredible evening.
Whether you're pushing the bale, cheering on a team or enjoying the live music in one of the pubs, this event has something for everyone. As the saying goes “You don't have to be mad to take part, but it certainly helps” - don't forget to bring some spare coins as this amazing event raises a lot of money for some fantastic charities!
The Village Stores
The heart of the village and home of the best pasties around! Make sure you pop in next time you're in the village, the friendliest staff, everything you might need, and did we mention the pasties?
Cargo Coffee & Scoop
Keeping our caffeine levels high on the beach we've got the luvly ladies at Cargo Coffee as well as the team at Scoop, providing us with drinks, food and tasty treats right on the sand!
You'll need to be quick off the mark to grab your cakes before the Big Green Adventures team get there though!
Places to Eat
Alongside the pubs, Crantock boasts 3 other amazing eateries that are well worth a mention; C-Bay is a personal favourite of the Big Green Team, with epic food and stunning views. If pizza is your thing then you can't do much better than Jam Jar, right in the centre of the village (and they do some pretty deadly cocktails too!).
Finally the amazing Fern Pit Café serves up some of the best sea-food around with views to die for. We know they're technically on the Newquay side of the river, but the Northey family have been part of Crantock's community for generations and with access straight from the beach who can argue with that!
Live Music
There always seems to be something going on here in Crantock to keep your ears happy. From live music in the pubs and bars, music festivals or street performers during the Bale Push, Crantock has it all!
If you're lucky (or unlucky) you might even catch a shanty-session from Crantock's very own Fiddle Me Timbers. Dale has been singing with the group for a few years now and they even closed Newquay Shanty Festival earlier this year!
The Locals
Last but not least, the one thing that, above all else, makes Crantock what it is are all the amazing locals. We're so proud to count ourselves amongst them and to play a part in this vibrant community.
I'm sure if you come back year on year you'll recognise that warmth and friendliness all around the village. It's a very special place and we can't wait to welcome you back here on your next visit!
