Join us for the ultimate Beach Lifeguard Course here in Crantock, Cornwall. Dive into an unforgettable week of training, with a small group of budding lifeguards on the stunning Crantock Beach to train for your National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification.
You’ll be training every day to gain the skills and knowledge you need to achieve an internationally recognised Beach Lifeguard Qualification, the prerequisite award that you need for a range of summer jobs lifeguarding, coaching or guiding on Cornwall’s stunning beaches or beyond.
What to expect...
Immersive Learning Environment
Immerse yourself in the lifeguard experience as you learn, train and assess together with your course-mates! You'll be sharing the days experiences and learning from each other as we go through the week.
Expert Coaching
Receive top-quality coaching from the highly experienced team at Big Green Adventures. With over 15 years of lifesaving and coaching experience, Head Coach Dale is a qualified SLSGB Trainer Assessor and founder of Big Green Adventures.
Internationally Recognised
The SLSGB National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification covers theory, CPR, first aid, pool skills, and open water skills. Upon completion, you’ll become a certified SLSGB National Vocational Beach Lifeguard with additional Surf Lifeguard accreditation where applicable. With this qualification you can work in a range of lifesaving and coaching roles around the world.
Safety First
Learn to manage safety for yourself, colleagues, beachgoers, and casualties. You'll learn how to spot dangers, react to changing conditions, perform rescues, give appropriate first aid and how to work with other agencies effectively.
Physically Demanding
The course includes swimming to set times, rescue scenarios through challenging surf and heavy lifting, ensuring a comprehensive skill set. We’ll be pushing your fitness to the limits to make sure you’ve got what it takes to save lives on our beaches.
Beach Paradise
Nestled in a beautiful Cornish village, you'll be training on a quiet, National Trust-managed beach with perfect flat-water training areas alongside waves to challenge your skills.
Dynamic Learning
Each day combines theory and hands-on practical sessions for a dynamic learning experience. Cover all aspects of being an effective Beach Lifeguard, including rescues, first aid, CPR, Oxygen administration, and Defibrillator use.
Small Group Experience
Enjoy an intimate setting with a maximum of 1:8 coach to student ratios. Teamwork and group interaction are vital when lifeguarding, throughout the course you’ll be building key interpersonal skills crucial to enhance your teamwork

Retake fees (if required) - Candidates rarely, if ever, incur additional fees due to the timeframes involved in the assessment process. We provide extensive support and training to ensure you're fully prepared for the assessment during the course. We're committed to your success, so retake fees are typically a non-issue.

Who's it for?
Our Beach Lifeguard course is open to anyone aged 18+ who has a passion for the ocean and a keenness to learn! The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification will provide you with an introduction to all elements of beach lifeguard theory, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, pool skills and open water skills.
The course is physically demanding so a good level of fitness is vital for all participants. In order to achieve the full Beach Lifeguard Award you'll need to complete a 400m pool swim in 8 minutes, as well as running 200m in 40 seconds and performing multiple rescues in waves. We'll be teaching you all the techniques you need, but a base level of fitness and ocean skills are essential to being able to complete this course successfully.
