2024 has seen the launch of a new activity here at Big Green - the team are now leading coasteering groups along an awesome route from Crantock Beach.
What is coasteering? Coasteering is an exploration along the coastline from point A to point B. It includes short swims (we wear bouyancy aids to make it nice and easy), floating, jumping and some easy rock scrambling.
We have spent hundreds of hours getting to know our route and all of the features to give our customers the best possible experience.
The Route
Call us biased but we think our route is the best in the area, we start with a float in the river and a nice easy scramble across the rocks before progressing to some low level jumps (very close to water level or at it), awesome gullies to float through and caves to explore. Finally we arrive in an area where we can progress to some bigger jumps, if the group is keen for it. If you're already sold you can book here.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to do the jumps?
All of the jumps are optional, everyone is encouraged to try new things, but there is no pressure to do any of the jumps. Our route is perfect for allowing each participant to enjoy it without the pressure of doing more than they want to.
If you are keen for big jumps, we have everything you need on our coasteering route to push your limits!
What if its raining/windy
Our route is very sheltered, when we are in the water you will not notice the wind or rain. We get wet as part of the activity, we wear thick wetsuits, bouyancy aids and it is a great way to spend a wet/windy day in Cornwall.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
We wear bouyancy aids as part of the activity, you do need to be water confident and able to swim 25m in a pool unaided. Everything we wear ensures we are always floating with minimal effort.
Is there an age limit?
The minimum age to join a coasteer is 10 years old, there is no upper age limit and we have taken people over 70 years of age.
What do I need to wear/bring to join coasteering?
We provide warm wetsuits, bouyancy aids and helmets, you need to bring a pair of closed-toe lace-up shoes (that will get wet and sandy) and an old pair of shorts to wear over your wetsuit, along with swimming costume and towel.
If you have any other questions or concerns please give us a call (01637 479279) or pop into our office in the National Trust carpark on Crantock Beach, we would be happy to help you.
